“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; those who seek find; and to those who knock, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
God is a relentless pursuer. He is faithful and proves His faithfulness time and time again. The Lord was faithful in providing amazing community for me through Chi Alpha at Virginia Tech.
One night during my freshman year, I happened to be walking down Washington Street and saw people in a house talking, communing and enjoying each other’s company. I grew curious and decided to find out more about this “Chi Alpha,” whose name I saw printed on a banner hanging from the front porch railing. Since walking into that house, meeting the people there and getting invited to attend a large group service, I have seen the Lord’s hand in guiding me closer to Him through guiding me through that open door of the XA house.
I have been involved in Chi Alpha for 2½ years now, and words can’t encompass the growth and depth that my walk with the Lord has seen. While there have been numerous life-changing moments at Chi Alpha events, such as Women’s Retreat, Fall Retreat, Life Group and Revival Services, it is what the Lord has done in my heart through those events that has marked my walk with Him thus far.
Prayer has played a huge role in transforming my walk with the Lord. Through seeing Chi Alpha’s heart for prayer and their fervent attitude toward it, I have been encouraged to pray boldly, consistently and faithfully. I have seen the power of prayer change lives and draw me closer to the heart of God in ways that I could never imagine.
Prayer graces everything associated with Chi Alpha, and at Fall Retreat my junior year, I saw the effectiveness and power of prayer through the work of the Holy Spirit. God did a huge work in my heart and broke every single chain of guilt and shame I had been harnessing for years. He showed me the power of His cleansing blood and affirmed me as His daughter—holy, blameless and pure in His eyes. I have been walking in this freedom since and am so blessed to be living a life free of bondage and darkness. As I continue to walk in the light, God is calling me into a more intimate relationship with Him. He is showing me who I am in Him, what it means to be His ambassador, and how the power of the Holy Spirit wills and works through me. I am humbled by my Heavenly Father’s presence in my life and blessed by the God I serve and live for. There is no better life.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17
Through prayer, the Lord continues to show me how deeply He cares for us. He hears us and desires to answer us, because He is a God of relationship and intimacy. It is not God’s will for us to be bound by sin, ashamed of our past or burdened by this world. God’s will for us is that we walk in freedom and in the light of His love and grace. His grace knows no bounds, and His love washes us clean; all we have to do is ask Him. Through prayer, we have the privilege of pleading before God and talking to Him about the deep things of our heart. Praise Jesus we have a Heavenly Father that invites us to commune with Him through prayer and is faithful to answer us according to His glorious riches, infinite mercy and everlasting love.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. “ Hebrews 4:15-16
