Virginia Tech is a big-time campus with a small town feel in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. The motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), belongs to 37,000 students, and we take it seriously. Our CMIT program began in 2016 and continues to flourish each year as we move toward our goal of equipping CMITs to serve on university campuses in the Southeast, the nation, and beyond in cross-cultural missions. Interns will learn to foster connect groups, preach, teach, reach the lost, disciple, and pioneer domestic and frontier missions through a dependence and reliance on the power of the Spirit.

In VTXA, we believe that transformed people transform people. We also embrace Chi Alpha's national missions motto of "giving a year and praying about a lifetime." If you're serious about living an impactful life for Christ, we would strongly recommend embracing both of these ideas by applying to our CMIT program. Here are just a few things every CMIT should expect to grow in during the CMIT program:
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: The most important part of our lives as Christians should be our relationship with God. The internship is a great opportunity to grow in your love for God and others as you work and learn. Staff pastors will be with you throughout your journey to help you grow. You will also grow in self-awareness, integrity, work ethic, discipline (even physical discipline which is of some value through daily CrossFit workouts), and communication skills.

BIBLICAL LITERACY: You will meet regularly as a CMIT class with our staff team for classes in theology, Biblical studies, and various topics relevant to the campus pastor including preaching, cultural relevance, missions, conflict management, and more. Our goal is for every intern to leave our program with a  desire to love God with his/her mind,  to develop a healthy rhythm of personal Biblical and theological studies, and to be an informed voice in an increasingly Biblically illiterate culture.

SPIRIT EMPOWERMENT: Empowerment through the Holy Spirit is not just a power grab or a theological distinctive. It is a recognition that all of us have far too little strength in ourselves to live a life worthy of the name of Christ. To seek the Spirit is to view oneself with humility, to see the mission of God for the humanly impossible task that it is, and to look to God as the One for whom nothing is impossible. Expect to receive training in how to walk in the gifts of the Holy Spirit if you do a CMIT with VTXA.

MINISTRY SKILLS: The majority of your training will involve the day to day “work of the ministry,” covering the full spectrum of responsibilities preparing you for a future in campus ministry, overseas missions, or church ministry. From event planning, administration/logistics, set up/tear down, running weekly services, small group discipleship, relational evangelism, and pastoral care, you will have the opportunity to develop these skills hands on with the supervision of our leadership team.
