True blessedness is not through association with Jesus but rather through keeping His Word. We are blessed when we are born into a Christian family. We are blessed when we are involved in a Christian fellowship. However, we are most blessed when we personally enter into the presence of God with a listening ear and stand to obey what He says. Jesus doesn’t simply want our attendance. He wants our obedience.
Jesus invites us into a relationship that goes deeper than that shared between mother and child!
An implication of what Jesus is saying here is that we are capable of hearing Him speaking to us. When we enter into the Lord’s presence, we are often quick to remember honor and adoration. However, how many of us stop to listen to His precious, life giving Words (John 6:68)? Moreover, how many of us stand to obey those Words spoken by our Lord? May we eagerly desire to be with our Lord, to hear His voice, but most of all to heed His Word.
