"Behold." The Greek word here for behold is idou, it is an imperative command to see, look, pay close attention. I am so thankful we are not simply commanded of things “not to do” in God’s Word, but of things “to do.” I have heard the idiom many times that “beholding is becoming, that which we behold we become.” One would think paying close attention, beholding, “seeing” should be easy, but its not. In this Chapter, we meet many characters in the Bible who paid close attention, who “saw” beyond their natural circumstances, and chose to behold and celebrate Jesus as Messiah, even in his early years. What will you be paying attention to this holiday? What will you behold and bless? Remember, becoming like Christ comes from a place of beholding Him, seeing Him, and paying close attention to Him. Let us not give up in our call to behold and worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords no matter our circumstances this holiday season.
