The Book of Luke

A 25 day devotional series for this Winter Break!

Day 5

Imagine this: one day someone you dearly love develops a life-changing illness and there’s nothing you can do about it. You watch them suffer day after day without any hope of a cure. Their sickness impacts every area of their lives, their work, even their relationships. Then one day you hear about someone who can help them. The cost may be high for you, but it could mean a lifetime of freedom and health for them. What lengths would you go to in order to bring your loved one help?

This is the story we read about in Luke chapter 5. These men carried their paralyzed friend for what could have been miles and they tore through a mud and straw roof to bring their friend into Jesus’ presence. We are surrounded by sick people. Our world is sick with sin and the bible tells us that without Christ, people are dead in their sin (Ephesians 2:1). Jesus is the only one who can set them free from their sin and completely transform them into a new creation in Him. What lengths will you go to in order to bring the lost into God’s presence?

Read Luke 5 and answer the questions to the left to help you reflect on the passage.
