Read: James 2:14-26
Devo: Praise God that Chi Alpha has had the chance to meet together during this semester! We’ve grown in our knowledge of God and of His word, and we’ve grown in our belief in Jesus! But for some of us, our trust in God is now being put to the test. Though we have seen our faith grow in community, we may be surprised how challenging it is to activate our faith while we are away from Blacksburg. Friends, now is the time to take responsibility and to activate our faith in Jesus! Let us be people that rise up in this season rather than coasting through it. Let’s look back at the life of James. At some point, James realized that just believing that his brother was the son of God was not enough. After all, even the demons believe and shudder (James 2:19)! James realizes that Christianity is not just a set of beliefs, it is a new way of life! The old is gone and the new has come! For some of us, activating our faith while we are at home is a scary challenge. We may face skeptical family members, new distractions, or simply an apathetic attitude. Take heart! God is our refuge and strength! An ever present help in times of trouble (Psalms 46: 1-3)! A foundational step in activating our faith is by dedicating a part of each day to spend time alone with Jesus in prayer and reading the Word!
Process with the Lord through the journaling questions!
Pray: Lord, I am so sorry for the times that I have not put my faith into action. Please forgive me for moments that I am tempted to deny my faith in you in front of other people. Would your Holy Spirit guide me in ways to share my faith with and serve the people around me during this Thanksgiving break.
